SALON LIGHT - livros e flores / CNEAI + VERMELHO

SALON LIGHT /
printed arts fair
tijuana / cneai
August 20, 21 and 22

TIJUANA and Centre National de l'Édition et de l'Art Imprimé – CNEAI (France) present on August 20, 21 and 22 the printed arts fair SALON LIGHT. This event, annual in France, takes place for the first time in Sao Paulo. SALON LIGHT will gather in three days French, Brazilian and Latin American artists and independent editors in order to create a promotion platform for publications, artists’ books, records, post cards and magazines. There will also be readings, meetings, lectures, pattern design workshops, launch of books and magazines and concerts in this event.

The TIJUANA space was open to public in October 2007. Created by Vermelho, Tijuana intends to promote artworks such as artists’ books, multiples, publications, and a great variety of pieces with focus on the issue of reproducibility. Even though these pieces are considered artworks, they rarely find their way into private or public art spaces because of a certain fragile aspect in most of these works. Since handling by the viewer is required, and most of the pieces are made of paper, their maintenance and archiving become more difficult, specially in museums without facilities designed to properly archive these editions. Art galleries, on the other hand, have very small interest in promoting these artworks since most of them are for free or are priced much lower than photographs, sculptures or installations, which have smaller editions.

Ever since its opening, TIJUANA has presented a large variety of artworks, generating a space for Brazilian and foreign artists, not necessarily represented by Vermelho, to present and sell printed matter pieces. Therefore, the current partnership with the CNEAI confirms this initiative to be possible.

The CNEAI (www.cneai.com), created in 1997, is a contemporary art national center for artists’ publications. It is based 9 km away from Paris, at Chatou’s Impressionistes island. At CNEAI, there are four exhibition rooms, a video room and a workshop. New actions, events, publications, seminars and workshops are proposed at every new show. CNEAI also takes part of mediations, publications, multiple production and actions in other venues, in two separate collections: "Multiple" composed of pieces produced by CNEAI, and "FMRA" (www.collection-fmra.org) that gathers nine thousand artists’ publications.

Sylvie Boulanger chef curater of CNEAI’s SALON LIGHT gathers, every year, independent editors and visitors. The current edition at TIJUANA will present some artworks for sale, such as Jogo de Memória (Memory Game) and Jogo Transparente (Transparent Game) by Carla Zaccagnini; the Carimbos (Stamps) by João Loureiro; t-shirts of Leandro da Costa, Tinho and Maurício Ianês; the Futebol Combinado (Combined Soccer) by Reginaldo Pereira; Michel Zózimo’s and Fernanda D’Agostino’s posters; fanzines by Erik van der Weijde, Fernando Mira and FUR; the new edition of Conversa Como Lugar (Conversation as Site), of Graziela Kunsch and Vitor Cesar. Some pieces are distributed for free as the Guia de Terrenos Baldios (Guide to the Waste Grounds) by Lara Almarcegui; and the SUPERCOPY by SUPERFLEX.

New publications will also be launched during the SALON LIGHT. Regina Melim’s “Conversas - Fabio Morais e Marilá Dardot - blá blá blá and Conversas - Ana Paula Lima e Ben Vautier - Tudo pelo Ben"; Laerte Ramos ALMANAQUE # 2; and Nicolás Robbio’s artist book N®, developed in partnership with the Trienal Poligráfica of San Juan(2009), in Porto Rico. French publisher Dasein will launch Do You Speak English? by Laura Solari; Travel Book by aiPotu, among others. Editions P present Dessous by Pablo Marcos Garcia, Lannion by Hervé Beurel, and Mon Amour by Denis Prisset. Éditions Incertain Sens brings us La Carte de Tendre by Bernard Villers ; La Sculpture: Les Pluies by Patrick Dubrac, and A Last Slata Atsal by Denis Briand, Publisher Onestar Press presents 100 Pisama / 100 Letters by Marina Abramovic, and Deep Blue Sky / Light Blue Sky by Lawrence Weirner, among others.
